There are a few reasons why so many workers in the U.S. suffer from strains and sprains. Whether you are a teacher, a machinist or a nurse, you might be susceptible to this type of injury.
One of the foremost causes of sprains and strains is repetitive motion. Strains and sprains occur when a muscle is overexerted and damaged. This is particularly likely to happen to you if you have to move the same muscle repeatedly in the same way. Jobs that involve typing, operating machinery, lifting heavy loads and a range of other tasks fall within this category.
Muscles are vulnerable
Sprains and strains are also common simply because ligaments and muscles are vulnerable to injury. You must endure serious physical impact to suffer a broken bone, but you might experience a muscle strain simply as a result of doing your job for too long without a break. Similarly, ligament sprains can result from completing a simple task such as lifting.
Every employer should provide training to staff in the proper techniques for performing duties. Sometimes, however, employees do not receive proper training, which puts them at greater risk of injury. Consider whether the training you received from your employer is sound and adequate advice for preventing injuries on the job. You should seek medical treatment if you are experiencing any symptoms of strains or sprains.
